Westinghouse SURE has obtained a very limited number of tickets for the following tour on September 17. These tours are only offered two or three times a year. Please note that original Nike site facility buildings are gone.
Join retired U.S. Army First Sergeant George Millerschoen on a short, walking tour of a former Cold War Nike Hercules Missile Site. Mr. Millerschoen began his military career as a Nike Hercules Missile Crewman in 1972 at Finleyville, Pennsylvania. During this short, informal walking tour, he will point out and discuss personnel and equipment locations and explain the weapon’s capabilities and its strategic importance to the Pittsburgh area. George, and local historian Earl Edwards welcome any questions you may have about the site and are looking forward to sharing their unique perspective on this piece of local history. Please bring water and wear closed toe shoes.
An optional pre-tour meal is planned at the Grist House Command craft brewery located at 301 Sgt. Messerschmidt Rd. Collier, PA 15071. They serve snacks, hamburgers, hot dogs and of course, beer. The brewery is housed in the former command center of Nike site PI-62 which operated from 1960 to 1972. We plan on meeting there when they open at 4:00 pm so we have enough time after eating for the 20-minute drive to the Moon Township Nike site for the tour.
